Charity Work
Do you ever feel the need to help others? It is important to give back to our community for all they have done for us. On one of the occasions, during the coronavirus pandemic, I went to a charity named HK Society for Rehabilitation Tsang Shiu Tim to deliver some cookies to the workers and elderly. In May 2021, I started a bake sale with my friends to raise money for Mighty Oaks, an organization striving to help elderly homes in HK.

Baking Cookies for Elderly Homes
On one of the occasions, during the coronavirus pandemic, I went to a charity named HK Society for Rehabilitation Tsang Shiu Tim to deliver some cookies to the workers. Due to the coronavirus, the workers kept the elderly safe, cared for, and entertained. Their kindness towards the elderly is immeasurable. So, I decided to help the elderly and workers, and I worked with an organization called Mighty Oaks to donate cookies to them. The care workers were super excited to receive the cookies!

Bake Sale (Baking Connections)
I recently became involved in an organization named Mighty Oaks, which is an organization that supports elderly homes in Hong Kong. My friends and I (Meg Xu, Sam Zhong, Erin Li) got in touch with Mighty Oaks, and we wanted to support their cause. We decided to start a bake sale to raise money for Mighty Oaks. There was a lot of work behind the bake sale: making a flyer, contacting Mighty Oaks, getting HKIS involved, making a website. It was quite a task to bake so many brownies and cupcakes, but the result was worth it! The people (mainly students in HKIS) were really supportive and bought many of our baked goods. With their help, we raised more than $8000 for Mighty Oaks! If you want to see what we have done, please visit our website.

Teacher Appreciation Week (Baking Connections)
During the last few months of school, my friends and I started a Baking Connections Club. Our goal was to teach the students how to make baked goods, but also to give back to our community. Due to the pandemic, we couldn't give sweet treats to people outside HKIS. But during the week of May 17, it was Teacher's Appreciation Week. We decided to make cake pops for the teachers and workers in HKIS. The teachers all loved the cake pops, and the students had a lot of fun making them!

Elderly Baking Workshop (Baking Connections)
The coronavirus has a huge impact on everyone, but perhaps the group that suffered the most is the elderly. They barely go out, and find little to entertain themselves at home. Working with Mighty Oaks, my friends and I hosted a baking workshop for the elderly to socialize and play baking-related activities such as baking-themed memory cards, bingo, and our favorite cupcake decorating activity! It was so heartwarming to see the elderly laugh with delight as they receive homemade cookies when they win a game of bingo. I was impressed to see their decorated cupcakes, I could not have done what they did! Not only did I gain many leadership skills from this activity, but seeing their smiles on their faces made all the preparations worth it.
